I opened up our book one day,
just to read our story.
I noticed pages blank in gray,
but I felt nothing short of glory.
I was a lonely mermaid,
who fell in love with a dream.
I could only come to your aid,
as reality took you away from me.
I would sneak into your castle,
just to leave my shoe.
And I would eat that poisoned apple,
if it meant you loved me too.
I do not have a magic carpet,
to sweep you off your feet.
I can only be your loyal pet,
you found scurrying along the street.

I am so reckless.
I cannot think straight.
My thoughts drain my brain like a parched flower, dying in soil that has no nutrients.
My happiness is racing.
I part my lips as fast as the words cross my eyes.
It is a wonder my tongue has not slipped out of my mouth.
I never took a liking to sleep.
The shadows are not friendly, but I make shapes out of them.
I have yet to find the rabbit hole Alice talks about.
My mania easily gets replaced.
Depression starts to fill my thoughts and I start thinking about crazy things.
